One of the greatest things about being an aircraft maintenance officer is you get to see your unit's progress and ability to meet the mission everyday. Although there are many aspects to maintenance mangement, seeing the maintainers identify problems, correct/fix problems, and then launch a capable jet is very rewarding. There is a lot of job satisfaction--a lot of that comes from knowing and trusting your people.
For me, the toughest part about being an aircraft maintenance officer is finding a balance--typically the maintenance officer has long days, 12-16 hours, which can easily take over your entire life. I think the key is to actively manage your time, learn to trust the experts, and have confidence in your prioritzation of tasks.
What did your worst day as a maintenance officer look like?
What about your best day?
